The Dutch coming-of-middle-age comedy De Marathon (pictured) tells the story of three shambolic, aging auto mechanics who decide, Full Monty-style, to get into shape and run 42k to help out an immigrant co-worker. On from June 21 at Cine Switch in Ginza (4-4-5 Ginza, Chuo-ku; www.cineswitch.com)… No one does devastating family dramas like the Europeans, as evidenced by the Romanian film Child’s Pose, playing from June 21 at Bunkamura’s Le Cinema (2-24-1 Dogenzaka, Shibuya-ku; www.bunkamura.co.jp). Veteran actress Luminita Gheorghiu plays a mother who pulls psychological and political strings when her adult son faces manslaughter charges following a car accident… In case you missed them the first time around, Shin-Bungeiza in Ikebukuro (3F, 1-43-5 Higashi-Ikebukuro, Toshima-ku; www.shin-bungeiza.com) is giving you a second chance to see recent films on the big screen from June 25, including Mud, The Sessions, Before Midnight and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty… Cinema Vera (1-5 Maruyamacho, Shibuya-ku ; www.cinemavera.com) will screen a cross-section of the sizable filmography of cult icon Sonny Chiba, June 14-July 11.
