Brooklyn group Dirty Projectors have collaborated with everyone from David Byrne to Björk, and have been signed to influential imprint Domino, yet they’ve managed to slip under the radar in Japan. Their upcoming debut at Club Quattro should change that. Founded by Yale grad Dave Longstreth, the band—featuring a revolving female chorus—brings a high-concept approach to pop, with albums that include re-envisionings of Black Flag punk songs and tributes to whales. Bone up with last year’s Bitte Orca, lavishly praised by everyone from hipper-than-thou website Pitchfork to staid Time magazine.
