Delving into a well-known but undocumented subculture, Doin’ It In The Park explores the roots and current scene of pick-up basketball in New York, considered the mecca of the sport that launched players such as Dr. J from the playground to the NBA court. Starts dunkin’ June 7 at Human Trust Cinema Shibuya (7-8F Cocoti Bldg, 1-23-16 Shibuya, Shibuya-ku; www.ht-cinema.com)… The genre-defying Spanish film Cannibal is screening at Human Trust Cinema Yurakucho (2-7-1 Yurakucho, Chiyoda-ku; www.ht-cinema.com). The thriller becomes a horror flick when an accomplished tailor is revealed to be a remorseless murderer, then becomes a love story when he meets a woman who awakens emotions in him… A François Truffaut double feature plays at Waseda Shochiku (1-5-16 Takadanobaba, Shinjuku-ku; www.wasedashochiku.co.jp) May 31-June 6. The French auteur plays a fictionalized version of himself struggling to complete a Hollywood film in Day For Night (1973) and directs national icons Jean-Paul Belmondo and Catherine Deneuve in Mississippi Mermaid (1969).
