Usokae Bullfinch Exchange

Held for more than 200 years, Usokae is Kameido Tenjin Shrine’s most celebrated annual ritual. Centered around the bullfinch—a bird believed to bring good fortune—the event invites visitors to exchange last year’s wooden figurines for new ones, renewing wishes for luck, happiness and prosperity. It’s a time-honored and distinctly Japanese way to welcome the year ahead.
