Japan’s whale-hunting expeditions may grab all the headlines, but the country also has a growing community of whale watchers. This new exhibition presents the large-scale photographs of renowned American lensman Bryant Austin, alongside documentary audio and video taken by cetacean-loving amateurs around Japan. Austin spends his life shooting whales up close, and the highlight of the show will be his giant, life-size images taken with a 50 megapixel Hasselblad from a distance of less than 2m. Also featured are the 3D animations of Haruyoshi Kawai, the country’s foremost illustrator of marine mammals.
