The Tokyo Superstar Awards were launched in 2010 to “honor those who act as bridges between LGBT society and society at large, embracing their differences.” Recognition is given to individuals, corporations, media and community programs that have had a positive impact on LGBT culture in Japan. Past corporate awards have gone to Google and IBM for supporting diversity and marriage equality and overseas superstars include President Obama and Lady Gaga who sparked dialogue on gay rights in the country. This year’s ceremony will be held December 7 at Billboard Live Tokyo. Pre-sale tickets for the gala have already sold out, but additional fourth floor seats will go on sale for ¥8,000 on November 22. http://www.tokyosuperstarawards.com
