Vancouver torch-folk songstress Hilary Grist makes her Japan debut with two nights of showcase performances at Marunouchi’s posh Cotton Club. Roughly equal parts Feist and Norah Jones but entirely her own creation, Grist was born in the far north of British Columbia. After four albums including the recently well-received Imaginings and several TV song placements, her vocal, piano and songwriting talents are now being recognized further afield. Will Japan prove fertile ground? Hosts of the shows the Canadian Embassy and domestic label P-Vine hope so.
Cotton Club, July 30-31 (listing).
