Dancemedium presents Kaeru (“homecoming”), a work influenced by the Great Tohoku Earthquake and the great sense of anxiety of people after the disaster. Dancemedium is composed of Yuri Nagaoka and Saisaku – direct disciples of the founder of Japan’s avant-garde dance form butoh, Tatsumi Hijikata. Originally performed in a small theater only three times to a full house, Kaeru is one of a very few butoh works to receive the Japanese National Dance Critic Association award.
