It’s become a cliché to say that Tokyo is a city of constant change. Yet the stereotype is not true, says photographer Daisuke Kamimura. “It seems to me that some of the city maintains an uninterrupted continuity,” he says, in reference to new show “Metropolis—Tokyo Image.” Pointing his camera at parks and zoos, or at the almost unchanging placement of something as prosaic as streetlamps, Kamimura took inspiration from ancient Japanese poet Kamonochomei’s observation that while the running water in a river is in constant change, the face of the river remains the same.
