Oliver Stone is finally getting closer to completing a new film about the Vietnam War. The 64-year-old director (right), who served as a soldier in the US Army during the war, went on to direct a trilogy of films about Vietnam: Platoon (1986), Born on the Fourth of July (1989) and Heaven & Earth (1993). Pinkville was originally set to be filmed in 2007, but a Hollywood writers’ strike set it off track. Transformers star Shia LaBeouf has reportedly been tapped to play Hugh Thompson, a helicopter pilot who worked to save lives during the My Lai massacre, in which hundreds of unarmed Vietnamese civilians were killed by US troops in 1968.
