Former TV producer Hiroshi Koike wraps up 30 years of avant-garde dance with a final performance this week. Naming his company Pappa Tarahumara after a reclusive Native American tribe in 1982, Koike closes the curtain on a career that brought his uniquely arty take on contemporary dance to 30 cities across the planet. The four-month festival ends with his unorthodox adaptation of Snow White, which Koike intends to be enjoyed on separate levels by children and adults. In closing comments, Koike notes declining audiences and funding, saying the end of his company reflects a country in crisis.
