Japan has a soft spot for Paul Weller’s mod style and tuneful songwriting. No wonder the country’s top bands are lining up to open for the British rocker’s first Japan tour in three years. Weller arrives riding a wave of renewed interest after his recent Brit award and Mercury Music Prize nomination. His 11th and latest album Sonik Kicks has also been well received, with NME giving it an 8/10 and saying “the aging legend proves he still has what it takes.” Youthful garage punkers the Okamoto’s, alt-rockers The Hiatus and art-pop unit Kururi open for Weller on successive nights.
