If breathy vocals, bedroom eyes and distortion pedals are your thang, catch Aussie femme fatale Penny Ikinger in a pair of gigs this weekend. Hailing from the Radio Birdman/MC5 school of scuzz-rock, Ikinger debuted with 2001’s Songs from the Deep and made her mark with 2003’s Elektra, an album Rolling Stone described as “black-hearted folk draped in fuzz, topped with a dark baby-doll whisper.” She returns for a weeklong trawl of Japan’s dives including two in Tokyo after a 2008 tour garnered her a following here.
