One of the last, great living drummers from the modern jazz revolution, 85-year-old Roy Haynes arrives at the Blue Note with his Fountain of Youth Band. Along with characters like Max Roach and Philly Joe Jones, Haynes provided the fleet rhythmic counterpoint to the experiments that Charlie Parker, Miles Davis and John Coltrane were conducting on their saxes and trumpets. Nicknamed “Snap, Crackle” for his firecracker snare drum work, Haynes continues to tour and record—the legendary jazzman was, in fact, nominated for a Grammy for 2004’s Fountain of Youth.Roy Haynes
