Hatsukoi no Kaori (“The Scent of First Love”) is the name for this new variety of white strawberry, bred in the underground labs of Miyoshi Agritech Co., with who knows what sinister GM techniques. Though it might look like this picture has been put through some kind of cheap Photoshop effect, it is in fact the real deal. If you are keen on paying about ¥500 per strawberry—or more than ¥1,000 per strawberry as pictured—a box could make a good spring gift, or a nice objet d’art for your mantelpiece. They’ll probably never go rotten, but don’t quote us on that.
