A cop (Channing Tatum) is assigned to the same working-class Queens neighborhood where he grew up in the projects, and by the way killed a couple of crack addicts. The deaths were covered up by the police because his cop dad had just been killed in the line of duty. Now someone who Knows has been writing letters to a local newspaper. “Gritty” director Dito Montiel’s now/then approach is adventurous but less than effectual, and the choppy editing erases rather than enhances the mystery. The talents of Al Pacino, Ray Liotta, Juliette Binoche, Tracy Morgan and Katie Holmes are largely wasted.
