Three emotionally shaky drifters travel through Katrina-devastated Louisiana. Brett (William Hurt, who can do anything) is a fresh ex-con wondering if he should continue to plague the life of his woman (Maria Bello in flashbacks). The runaway Martine is given unexpected depth by Twilight’s Kristen Stewart, and the Eton-educated Eddie Redmayne puts in an annoyingly perfect performance as the timid, motormouth geek Gordy. He’s the guy with the big convertible. But these actors can do only so much with the sappy script and mawkish ending, inspired by nothing less than a ’70s hit by Tony Orlando and Dawn.
