What is crossover/jazz? Impresario Shuya Okino [pictured] says it’s dance music rooted in a love of jazz. It’s a style that he and his brother Yoshi have proselytized ever since they launched their Kyoto Jazz Massive DJ unit two decades ago. Owner of cozy Shibuya club The Room, Shuya wanted to enlarge his ambitions, and in 2003 created this festival. This year sees Panamanian sax player Carlos Garnett knocking heads with UK songstress Bembe Segue, and Brand New Heavies diva N’Dea Davenport accompanying local DJ Kawasaki.
