We all know Japan’s favorite condiment, the ground seaweed and sesame seed mixture known as furikake. Kyushu-based foodstuff maker Maruhide takes the sprinkled seasoning in a new and healthier direction with Misoful (¥600 for 70g bottle). The flavorful mixture is made from dried miso containing ten different domestic ingredients, including non-GMO soy beans, mung beans and millet. It contains sun-dried salt, but isn’t loaded down with the monosodium glutamate that often appears in furikake. There is a finely ground variety that can be used in homemade salad dressing or other cooking and a course ground that is good for sprinkling over rice, pasta or salad as a vegan alternative to bacon bits. You can even try it with ice cream.
Metropolis has three sets of Misoful for our readers. To apply, mail giveaways@metropolis.co.jp and let us know what you plan to spice up with it.
