After winning gold medals No. 3 and 4 at the Beijing Olympics, swimmer Kosuke Kitajima seemed to drop off the map. He quit his management company, Sunny Side Up, and headed for the US for some thinking time, taking his SSU handler with him. In reality, though, he only had one thing to think about: should I try for two more Olympic golds in London in 2012? After returning to competition for last year’s Asian Games, where he finished fourth in two races, Kitajima will appear at the 52nd Japan Short-Course Championships later this month. One of Japan’s finest athletes, Kitajima is incredibly focused on his goals, so you can be sure that if he’s aiming for 2012, he’s aiming for nothing less than gold.
