Two “interviews” with Rachel Carson, whose 1962 book Silent Spring challenged for the first time the use of untested toxic pesticides in the US. The quote marks are because Carson, who has been called the patron saint of the modern environmental movement, died of breast cancer in 1964, and this is a recreation by writer and actress Kaiulani Lee, who fashioned the script from the author’s own writings. In the final year of her life, this intensely private person became the target of vicious attacks by the chemical industry and the government. Her message was eventually heeded, but the battle goes on.
