I am part of a group that works on rotation in Tokyo. While short-term stays were acceptable, long-term stays at a traditional hotel were not what our group desired. After six months of searching, we were fortunate to connect with Space Design and BUREAU Shinagawa.

The BUREAU is just what we were looking for—a truly comfortable place to stay. We continue to receive great comments from within our group: The staff are very efficient, knowledgeable and friendly personnel who go out of their way to provide assistance and guidance to residents. The location is a quiet area on a canal with an outside patio and waterside walkways as far as Tennozu Isle station. The facilities include a top (24th) floor dining room with great meals at a very reasonable cost, an exercise room and a hot bath. The lobby offers comfortable seating areas and a coffee shop with complimentary breakfast. Then there are the conveniences, including a plaza across the street with a 24-hour grocery store, beauty salons, vegetable market, liquor store, dry cleaners, restaurants, medical office and pharmacy. Within a 10-minute walk are Shinagawa station, Tennozu Isle station and what seems like hundreds of restaurants and shops.

Now that we are here, none of us would consider moving. BUREAU Shinagawa has become our home away from home!

I remember that we had an Indian guest last year who loved origami. Before she went back to India, she really wanted to buy some as souvenirs. Although I introduced her to a few origami shops, it was difficult for her to visit them because of her schedule. So after I got home that day, I asked my sister, who was working as a kindergarten teacher, to make some origami figures for her. When I presented these to her before her check-out, she looked very happy and gave me some earrings in return.

One year has passed since then. She called me from Qatar recently and told me that she still has the origami as a reminder of the Japanese spirit of hospitality, omotenashi.
