House music was born when the funk and disco bands of the ’70s met ’80s music technology. But at a certain point producers began to retranslate the DJ experience back into the live-band format. One of the more influential figures of this breed is American producer Chris Brann, whose Ananda Project is a full-fledged band with live musicians and vocalists. Now the group is back to Japan to debut its first album in five years in a pre-holiday night at hallowed house music temple Eleven in Nishi-Azabu. Beautiful Searching is released on King Street Sounds, the New York label headed by Japanese expat Hisa Ishioka, who for many years has delivered the New York house sound straight to clubs across Japan.
