The core of ballet spirit

The title of this program translates roughly to “the core of ballet spirit,” and with the likes of dashing Russian soloist Farukh Ruzimatov starring in selections from revered works of ballet, it’s hard to argue. The “Ballet no Shinzui” tour was initially slated to take in three days in Tokyo, but repair work to Shinjuku Bunka Center required in the wake of the quake limited it to one sole date. Those able to get tickets can enjoy Ruzimatov and prima ballerinas such as Elena Filipieva of the Kiev Ballet in favorite passages from chestnuts like Carmen, Swan Lake and La Bayadere.

Bunkyo Civic Hall, July 12. See dance listings for details.
