The fact that more than a few experts are predicting optical media for storing movies and the like will soon disappear in the face of speedy and simple downloads doesn’t seem to be deterring Blu-ray backers like TDK, which recently boosted the storage space of its disks to priapic proportions.
The prototype BD jumps from the current norm of 50GB to a massive 320GB maximum. TDK’s men in white coats achieved the feat by stacking ten 32GB layers atop one another, making them thin enough for the read/write laser to punch right through to the bottom layer.
