French choreographer Myriam Gourfink will share the stage with two Japanese dancers at Yokohama’s waterfront Redbrick Warehouse, in the first in the latest installment of the French Institute’s Danse Cross series. Gourfink is known for a theatrical approach to dance, and her work is intended to produce a state of meditation. Dancers Kaori Seki and Teita Iwabuchi were the recipients of a French government scholarship last year that allowed them to go to France for four months and join the National Centre for Contemporary Dance. Their new piece Conception is the result of this immersion.
