Patrik Washburn says: “I’ve been working on a personal project that is very special to me. To quickly sum up: I asked several Japanese artist friends of mine to contribute to an art and storybook, Punchkinhead, the Never-Give-Up Boy. The sales go to a charity for my cousin’s baby, Holden Thomas Underwood, who is suffering from Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. ALL is treatable, but the treatments are expensive—as much as US$250,000 or more—and must continue even after remission. The book includes contributions from 35 artists (including one piece I added myself), and every work features Punchkinhead, the Never-Give-Up Boy. The inspiration for the character is Holden himself—even though he’s going through all sorts of testing and treatments, he has plenty of smiles for everyone. The story is written for younger readers, but the incredible artwork ranges from the whimsical and hilarious to the beautiful and sublime.”
US$15. Available for order on Amazon and at www.createspace.com/3491626. For more info about Holden, see the Holden’s Hope Facebook page
