When young Chinese fashion photographer Chen Man isn’t busy shooting David Beckham or spreads for Vogue, she creates striking images that merge contemporary fashion photography with sly allusions to Chinese history. The Beijinger juxtaposes images of hyper-perfect beauties against backdrops of dams and historical buildings, setting China’s consumer culture against its history of communist worker propaganda to tell a visual story of the paradoxes of contemporary Chinese society.
