Intimate portraits of flowering plants

Originally published on metropolis.co.jp on April 2013

Lensman Clinton Friedman celebrates the environment of his native South Africa not with sweeping vistas of wild game and savannas, but via intimate portraits of flowering plants. In his desire to bring people closer to nature, he also isn’t afraid to embrace the commercial. Last year, Friedman joined with American contemporary furniture and housewares store West Elm to create a collection of homeware items. This show by photo gallery Subject Matter presents not only his limited edition botanical flower photographic prints but also examples of the graphic designs he has fashioned for scatter cushions and umbrellas.

Subject Matter Art Gallery, until Apr 25.
