If you find that your Jamie Oliver ambitions shrivel to the size of a Happy Meal as soon as you take stock of the limitations of your kitchen, fret not. Lekue’s Steam Case may look like a glorified bit of Tupperware, but it’s actually a smart bit of culinary kit that’s sure to appeal to gourmands with lazy streaks. The silicone container can be heated in the microwave or a conventional oven, taking the time and effort out of preparing totally pukka steamed fish, chicken, fruit and veggies. Also available in a tray version that lets you leave the juices at the bottom of the dish when you’re done.

Steam Case, ¥5,250; with tray, ¥10,500. Available from Tokyu Hands, Loft, Queens Isetan and most department stores. www.coram.co.jp
