When it comes to perseverance in the face of gorillas like Apple, you’ve got to hand it to brands such as iRiver, the Seoul-based purveyor of all manner of pocket audio and video players. Its latest attempt to grab a few sales here in Japan is the P7, a very attractive 4.3-inch touch-screen media player that can handle pretty much all kinds of audio and video files, as well as simple text-based e-books. The P7 also boasts an impressive 35 hours of audio playback and seven hours of video per charge, while the 16GB of onboard memory can be complemented with a microSD card if more space is needed. However, when you can pick up an 8GB iPod touch online for around the same price (¥16,000 or so), it’s hard to see how many prospective buyers will be won over, even with those superior Korean attributes.
