Any Tokyoite worth their shio will own—or at least know of—the Suica card and its penguin mascot. Fun fact: the bird represents swimming through the ticket gates smoothly. To mark the 10th anniversary of the electronic money and commuter pass system, the Hotel Metropolitan’s patisserie (1-6-1 Ikebukuro, Toshima-ku. Tel: 03-3980-1111) is offering the Suica brioche (¥250) through April 20. The cushiony cubes are filled with a swirl of pistachio, cocoa and raspberry flavors. Branded on the outside is the mascot poised as if he is strutting through a station ticket gate. Only 20 of these babies are being made per day, so use your pass to get on an early train to Ikebukuro.
