You finally recovered from December’s bonenkai and January’s shinenkai parties—and then look what happens. Hanami season comes along with its enforced schedule of rigorous public drinking. How’s a body to cope? Piiman (1F, 2-2-1 Shinjuku; Tel: 03-3341-9472) comes to the rescue with a detox menu that will restore you once you’ve been scraped off the blue tarpaulin in nearby Shinjuku Gyoen with a large spatula. It’s no coincidence that the shop name brings to mind a green superhero. Their veggie juices are a made-to-order kaleidoscope of healthiness, available in combos of one veg (¥650), three (¥800), and five (¥950)—and even a 14-veg behemoth called the “Mix Jumbo” (¥1,100), where they just shove their entire larder into a blender and inject it into your bloodstream. Piiman also serves up a full vegetarian menu, including curry, pizza, spicy pilaf, and hayashi rice. If you can still eat, that is.
