A former editor at Forbes and the Financial Times, Eamonn Fingleton has been monitoring East Asian economics ever since 1986, when he met China’s supreme leader Deng Xiaoping as a member of a high-ranking US financial delegation. His latest work, In the Jaws of the Dragon, disputes the widely held view that as living standards rise, China will become increasingly Western in its politics and economics. In an upcoming appearance at Good Day Books in Ebisu, Fingleton will revisit the topic of his widely acclaimed 1995 book, Blindside: Why Japan Is Still on Track to Overtake the U.S. by the Year 2000, in light of the recent worldwide economic meltdown.
Good Day Books, Sep 6. See events listings (community) for details.
