Ballet “A Christmas Carol” by Ivan Vasiliev in Tokyo

Dec 05, 2026 at 1:00pm ~ Dec 06, 2026 at 3:00pm

Ivan Vasiliev brings his ballet “A Christmas Carol” to Tokyo on December 5 and 6. The three performances take place at Box1000, the live performance hall inside MoN Takanawa: The Museum of Narratives.

The ballet retells Charles Dickens’ story of Scrooge, a miser visited by the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Future. It’s Vasiliev’s first full-length work as a choreographer. It has also joined the repertoire of St. Petersburg’s Mikhailovsky Theatre.

Vasiliev directs and dances the role of Scrooge himself. He has also reworked the piece for its first staging in Japan. Mikhailovsky prima ballerina Irina Perren joins a cast of dancers from Russia and Japan. Meanwhile, costumes come from the Mikhailovsky Theatre, and scenery appears on the hall’s large LED screens.

There’s no spoken dialogue, so no Japanese is needed. Each show runs about 1 hour and 50 minutes, including an intermission.
