The Odyssey Premieres in Japan September 2026

Sep 11, 2026 at 10:00am ~ Dec 01, 2026 at 11:00pm

Christopher Nolan’s “Odyssey” arrives in Japan on September 11, about two months after its July 17 release. Nolan shot the film entirely on IMAX cameras and has said IMAX 70mm film is the only way to see it as intended. Japan has no theaters equipped for that format. Only 41 cinemas worldwide do, and none are in Asia.

Where to Watch in Japan

The closest available formats are IMAX Laser and IMAX with GT technology, at Grand Cinema Sunshine in Ikebukuro and 109 Cinemas Osaka Expo City. Both offer sharper, taller-frame digital projection, though not true film. Given demand for 70mm screenings overseas, tickets at these locations are likely to sell out quickly.
