NNTT joins OperaVision, Europe’s largest opera stream platform, supervised by Opera Europa and supported by the EU’s cultural support program Creative Europe. The New National Theater has been a project partner of OperaVision since February 2022.

Puccini’s “Suor Angelica” is a moving work that depicts the loneliness and despair of Angelica, who is separated from her child, and a mysterious miracle, using Puccini’s unique rich music. The entire theater was filled with emotion at the elaborate ensemble of female soloists and chorus, the breathtaking exchange between Angelica and the Duchess, and the dramatic expression of Angelica, who chose death out of despair. “L’Enfant et les Sortilèges” on the other hand, is a fantasy opera that depicts the world surrounding children from a child’s perspective, which Ravel called “fantasy lyrics.” The adventures of a child’s heart are told in a playful way with gorgeous music.

The director is Jun Aguni, who has a reputation for meticulous reading. Please take note of the character descriptions that focus on the individual inner lives of the characters, the dynamic changes that take advantage of the stage mechanism, and the playful atmosphere.

The orchestra will be conducted by Ryusuke Numajiri , who is Japan’s leading opera conductor and also specializes in modern works. Chiara Isotton, who has risen to stardom with her dramatic roles, will play the role of Angelica , Chloé Briot, who is especially good at this role, will play the child role, and her resolute expression with hidden passion will be well received as the duchess/mother. Junko Saito appeared on stage and thrilled the audience.
