PechaKucha Night Tokyo: Volume 184

Join us Thursday, July 20th for a Summer Celebration of Tokyo’s “Creative Class” at PechaKucha Night Tokyo Volume 184. We look forward to celebrating summer with you and with Tokyo’s “Creative Class” next Thursday, July 20th at the CORE KITCHEN/SPACE in Toranomon! Doors will open at 6:30pm.

Presenters 

Dokka vivid 

A duo of Upcycling Designers express their concept adding spice to our lives and expressing a vivid and tasteful view of the world with Asian sensibilities. They’ll present some of their latest upcycled designs.

 

Michael Young 

A world-renowned British industrial designer and creative director based in Hong Kong, Young was born in 1966 in Sunderland, a small industrial city in the North-East of England. Young graduated from Kingston University in 1992. The following year, he founded the Michael Young Studio with the aim of providing exclusive, quality design services globally.

 

HONOKA

The TATAMI ReFAB PROJECT is a project undertaken by HONOKA, a design lab consisting of six designers. They will present the history of the project and their journey to winning the Grand Prix at the Salone del Mobile in Milan, Milano Salone Satellite 2023.

 

Jared Campion 

A long-term resident of Japan, Campion began a campervan rental business as a new way for tourists to travel to Japan, however, the COVID-19 pandemic maneuvered him into a campervan manufacturer.

 

Pechakucha founders 

PechaKucha Founders, Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham of Klein Dytham Architecture are excited to share their latest project at PechaKucha: Fender Flagship Tokyo. The first store of its kind in Fender’s 77-year history, the city is buzzing like a guitar amp with excitement. Come hear the story of designing the 4-story, 1,200 square-meter space for this global iconic brand.

 

Ouka Wadaiko 

The Ouka, a small group performance of Japanese instruments and dance, embodies the ephemeral beauty of cherry blossoms, fireworks and the changing of the seasons as they burn to life in a short 10-minute performance.

 

Xuan Yang

The freshest face at Klein Dytham architecture is not only a talented designer, but she’s also an avid motorcyclist. Yang will take the “PechaKucha Challenge” and present some stories from her 8000-kilometer, two-wheeled journey across the length of Japan.

 

Drew Damron 

Sawanobori is a unique variation of mountain climbing native to Japan. Participants apply rock climbing, hiking, swimming, and occasional foraging and fishing skills to traverse waterfalls along a mountain stream to its source. Here, librarian Damron explains the activity’s roots.
