ZEN NIGHT TOKYO
Oct 14, 2026 at 5:45pm ~ Dec 06, 2026 at 9:00pm
A special Exhibition at “Daitoku-ji Temple”: Special Nighttime Event “ZEN NIGHT TOKYO”.
The event features illuminated autumn foliage, a sea-of-clouds installation, and sound and light effects powered by “neuromusic,” a patented technology developed by VIE that explores the use of neurotechnology to support brain function. Visitors can also experience walking meditation while moving through the garden and brainwave meditation, during which brainwaves are measured.
Held in the Heiseikan wing from Oct 14 through Dec 6, the exhibition marks Daitoku-ji’s first exhibition in Tokyo and the first major presentation of its treasures in 41 years. It offers an opportunity to encounter the temple’s art and cultural heritage outside Kyoto.
The exhibition also recreates the normally inaccessible interior of Daitoku-ji’s Sanmon gate, including its vivid ceiling paintings and other works by Hasegawa Tōhaku. For the first time, visitors can also see the gate’s principal Buddhist image, a statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, alongside a statue of Sen no Rikyū.
The nighttime program also provides special access to the Tokyo National Museum’s gardens, which normally close at 5 p.m.
