If you’re one of the 126.2 million people in Japan who didn’t bother going to Yokohama’s 150th anniversary celebrations last year, you can make amends next weekend. From June 4-6, the city will start the countdown to its 200th anniversary with the Y151 Festival. The main stage at Yamashita Park will play host to a variety of events, including a cosplay-themed festival, concerts by the Yokohama Port Beats, and the Hamakoi Odori, which features scores of performers dancing to the city’s famous folksong, “Akai Kutsu.” Events will also be held in Kannai, Chinatown, Motomachi and other areas around town.
