Eighties ska-punk legends Fishbone may not have gone on to rule the world. But ask their Los Angeles brethren, like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and they’ll tell you they never would have existed were it not for Fishbone’s pioneering mash-up of funk, punk, ska and metal. The outfit hit their commercial peak with 1988’s Truth and Soul, and Fishbone’s long years in the wilderness were tragicomically chronicled in 2011’s documentary Everyday Sunshine, but the group—led by the irrepressible Angelo—continues to perform to dedicated crowds worldwide, including recently in Japan at the Fuji Rock Festival.
