With his stylishly tousled locks, Gen Yokosaka could work at a host bar. But don’t be fooled—at 23, he’s one of Japan’s finest cellists, having worked with Seiji Ozawa and performed with the country’s leading orchestras. For his installment of Tokyo Opera City’s B→C (“Bach to Contemporary”) monthly program, Yokosaka has chosen for the Bach section Suite No.4, from the timeless Six Suites for Solo Cello. For the contemporary segment, he performs two works: Toshiro Mayuzumi’s dissonant 1960 piece Bunraku and Russian great Sergei Prokofiev’s 1949 Sonata for Cello and Piano in C Major.
