In another example of a promising young actress trapped in material that is in every way beneath her, Chloë Grace Moretz (Let Me In, Hugo, Kick Ass) struggles heroically to give depth to her underwritten character, a damaged 13-year-old hick chick who splits her non-functional home to hitch to Las Vegas. Along the way she encounters a creepily protective urban cowboy (Eddie Redmayne), a grifter with a heart of gold (Blake Lively) and other lowlifes. This ugly pile of pointless pretentiousness consists mainly of clumsy shifts in tone, glaring contrivances and gaping plot holes. Highly missable.
