HOTEL GROOVE SHINJUKU: A Soundtrack to Your Stay in Tokyo
Where music and Tokyo city views meet bold design and DJ flair
By Trevor Kew
Shinjuku is the place to be in Tokyo when it comes to fun and entertainment. Countless bars, restaurants, nightclubs and live music venues bring the area to life, as well as over 100 independent recording labels that produce everything from jazz and heavy metal to J-pop and rap. When HOTEL GROOVE SHINJUKU, A PARKROYAL Hotel, opened in 2023, occupying Floors 18・20-38 of the spectacular TOKYU KABUKICHO TOWER, it aimed to be more than just another nice place to stay.
From its name and decor to its hip bar and cool gelateria, the hotel sings a song that embodies the spirit of Shinjuku itself.

Curated Beats from Check-In to Check-Out
From the moment you enter the lobby, you might find yourself tapping along to the music. That’s by design. Rather than relying on generic background tunes, HOTEL GROOVE SHINJUKU streams playlists curated by local DJs, musicians and club owners. A QR code gives guests access to the playlists on Spotify—so the soundtrack doesn’t stop when the stay ends.

Head to the 17th floor and you’ll find JAM17 GELATERIA, serving rich Okinawan gelato at window counters and a breezy terrace. Around the corner is JAM17 BAR, a sleek cocktail spot that hosts guest DJs from nearby club ZEROTOKYO.

Groove in Your Room in the Heart of the City
The attention to detail at HOTEL GROOVE SHINJUKU is remarkable. On the 17th floor, you’ll pass the “RecordWall,” a hallway lined with vinyl records from legendary musicians of the 60s, carefully curated by a local Shinjuku record shop.
Meanwhile, on the 18th floor in the hotel lobby, the “ArchiveWall” showcases a striking photo mosaic tracing Shinjuku’s evolution over the decades. Throughout the hotel, modern art nods to the area’s past, including a subtle tribute to the old bowling alley that once stood on this site.

Rooms blend comfort and personality. Each one features a Marshall mini-speaker, letting guests connect via Bluetooth and stream their own playlists—or the hotel’s curated mixes.
Floor-to-ceiling windows frame expansive views of Shinjuku’s tangled maze of train tracks, rooftops and restless motion. A silver panel over the windows adds an extra sparkle of downtown glamor.
