One of the most popular shows in the history of Paris’s Pompidou Center opens this week in Tokyo. Jean-Michel Othoniel is a 47-year-old French artist whose large-scale glass abstractions have made him one of his country’s most renowned artists. Othoniel avoids the didactic ethos of much contemporary art and offers visions of color and sensuality. Named after the famous Frank Sinatra song, “Jean-Michel Othoniel, My Way” exhibits 60 works, many made from colorful Italian Murano glass, from over 25 years of the artist’s career.
