A trip to Nijo Castle is a highlight of visiting Kyoto. Now Tokyoites can enjoy its medieval splendor without leaving town. A major exhibition of Kyoto art, “Kyoto from Inside and Outside” includes a recreation of a room from Nijo Castle, reproduced with spectacular panel paintings which have recently been restored. Large-scale depictions of town life and seasonal views of the city that adorn the Kyoto Imperial Palace, as well as a high-tech projection of Ryoanji shrine—known for its Zen rock garden—are also part of the show.
Until Dec 1 at the Tokyo National Museum. See details.
