Tokyo rock fans can sample rarely heard Kyushu bands courtesy of the second annual Kyushu Pop Festival. The event is produced by Call and Response Records’ Ian Martin, who will also be DJing at Metropolis’ upcoming “Rock Chick’s Revenge” event (June 4). Nine bands are slated to appear, including five making the trip from Kyushu. Among them are avant-garde garage-punk unit Zibanchinka, whose debut album Hatsubai Chushi is currently available via Call And Response, postpunk quartet Hyacca and post-rock instrumental band MacManaman.
