The most famous soul singer you’ve never heard of, Leon Ware was a hitmaker for the likes of Marvin Gaye and Michael Jackson. Today, the Motor City son known as “Mr. Mellow Soul” is one of the genre’s elder statesmen, represented by the newly reincarnated label Stax, which issued his 2008 disc Moon Ride. Master of the sensual whisper and subtle arrangement, Ware and co. should provide the perfect backing track to a night out at one of Tokyo’s poshest supper clubs.

Cotton Club, through Aug 23. See concert listings (popular) for details.
