Soul diva Marlena Shaw and players on her historic 1974 album Who Is This Bitch, Anyway? reprise a 2009 reunion tour of Japan. The record was a seminal work of “feminist funk” and set Shaw’s mellow, smoky voice amid a cool background of soul-jazz provided by bassist Chuck Rainey, guitarist David T. Walker, keyboardist Larry Nash and drummer Harvey Mason. Along with raising five children, Shaw also managed to record one of disco’s biggest hits in the form of “Touch Me in the Morning” and become one of hip-hop’s most-sampled artists.Marlena Shaw
