A posse of Japan’s sweeter musicians fete the domestic release of the “official” Bob Marley documentary. After years of gestation and involvement by Martin Scorsese and Jonathan Demme, Kevin Macdonald’s Roots of Legend finally appeared this spring with the approval of the Marley family. The doc traces Marley’s rise from a Jamaican backwater to global prominence to his unnecessary death to cancer at 36, and features interviews with those who new him well, numerous reggae stars and rare concert footage. At the release party, favorite Marley tunes will be interpreted by Harajuku icon Hiroshi Fujiwara, keyboardist Ino Hidefumi and the Nesta Band among others.
